ozone

A form of oxygen. Around 1900 many people believed it made the air of forests, mountains and seashores fresh and healthy, and that plants gave it off.

“Quite right,” Newton agreed. “I believe we already have greenhouse parts almost ready, built for exactly that plan. As for room, there is plenty in the rocket. And if it is not enough, nothing stops us from strolling in space suits for hundreds of versts around. The rocket itself, with its explosion tubes and its huge store of explosives, can leave Earth and travel wherever we like: to the Moon, if we like, or to the asteroids. Even now it is out for a stroll, showing us views of Earth, each more beautiful than the last. So we are traveling all the time anyway. We will connect the greenhouse to our rocket with two thin pipes. One will carry the carbon dioxide and other human waste that builds up in the rocket out to the greenhouse. The other will bring fresh oxygen and ozone made by the plants into the rocket. We cannot do this without pumps. But we have solar engines here, brought from Earth, and they work beautifully.”
